Over the last 42 years, I have had opportunities to mentor and to be mentored. I do not know how successful of a mentor I have been. However, I do know that my mentors have always let me down in some way. The reason is simple. They are all human. Most didn’t even realize they were my mentors. I don’t fault any of them for letting me down in some way. Because I have let almost all of them down in some way to. But learning how not to do things is as, or more, valuable to me then all the great things I have learned from them. When mentoring someone I believe there are 5 fundamental rules to follow, they are;
- Recognize when you are in a position of a mentor, Mentoring happens in every aspect of our world.
- Once you realize that you are in the position of mentor, be conscience of how you conduct yourself in every new encounter.
- Use the teachings and example of Jesus Christ in every single situation when you can mentor.
- If you use Jesus Christ as the example instead of yourself. you can’t let someone down.
- If you mistakingly use yourself as an example, point it out to your pupil. Show them how fallible you are and how perfect Jesus Christ is.
I believe if you follow these simle rules you will become a great mentor for the Kingdom, And you will be blessed. It is a perfect afternoon here on the mountain and I’m going to go out and enjoy it…………………….. Jonathan
